I have been thinking a lot about the following passage from the bible.<\/p>\n

Mark 12:1-12
\nJesus then began to speak to them in parables:\u00a0\u201cA man planted a vineyard.\u00a0He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.\u00a02\u00a0<\/sup>At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.\u00a03\u00a0<\/sup>But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed.\u00a04\u00a0<\/sup>Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully.\u00a05\u00a0<\/sup>He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.<\/em><\/p>\n

6\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHe had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all,\u00a0saying, \u2018They will respect my son.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

7\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut the tenants said to one another, \u2018This is the heir. Come, let\u2019s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.\u2019\u00a08\u00a0<\/sup>So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.<\/em><\/p>\n

9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhat then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.\u00a010\u00a0<\/sup>Haven\u2019t you read this passage of Scripture:<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

\u201c\u2018The stone the builders rejected<\/em>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0has become the cornerstone;<\/em>
\n11\u00a0<\/sup>the Lord has done this,<\/em>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and it is marvelous in our eyes\u2019?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

12\u00a0<\/sup>Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd;\u00a0so they left him and went away.<\/em><\/p>\n

The first time I read this parable I didn’t get it, I skimmed over it and read on, but I just reread it yesterday and I finally understood it.<\/p>\n

As many others have written and as I finally understood, in this parable Jesus is referencing God as the landowner<\/em>, the Jewish leaders as the tenants<\/em>, the prophets as the servants<\/em> and then Himself, Jesus, as the landowners only son<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As I was thinking more about this today, I thought about all of the other spiritual beliefs and religions spread throughout the world. \u00a0I thought about how the core teaching of all of the major religions is the same as Jesus’ core teaching, The Golden Rule.<\/p>\n

Do unto others as you would have done unto you.<\/em><\/p>\n

Then I began to think about all of the other religions whose leaders could have also been considered tenants<\/em>. \u00a0I thought about how these other religions have also had prophets come to share this message, The Golden Rule, and I started wondering what was the difference.<\/p>\n

Did the leaders of these other religions, the tenants<\/em>, actually listen to their prophets, the servants of the landowner<\/em>, thus not requiring the landowner<\/em> to send his only son<\/em>?<\/p>\n

If this is the case, then we have been quite lost for some time. \u00a0If this is the case, then we, the Christian children of our Jewish ancestors, appear to be among the last to follow God’s law and the one’s who required and took the most from God in order to listen and believe. \u00a0We wouldn’t take the word of His prophets\/His servants, but required Him to sacrifice His only Son for us to finally listen and believe.<\/p>\n

Thank you God for sacrificing Your only Son, Jesus, in order to bring us, Your chosen people, home. \u00a0Please help us to understand that You chose us not as a preference over our brothers and sisters throughout the world, but because You love us and refuse to abandon Your lost sheep even if it means sacrificing Your only Son.<\/p>\n

Please help us to open our eyes and see that we may have been the lost sheep all along.<\/p>\n

Please help us to open our eyes as we look on our brothers and sisters throughout this world and help us to see that there are so many who knew Your Son before you sent Him and so many who have loved You, lived by Your words, and attributed any goodness found within them back to You longer than we have.<\/p>\n

Please help us to see that we might be among the last.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
